Lanyon Homestead

Join a guided tour and explore places away from the main Homestead and gardens that are not usually seen by the public at Lanyon Homestead.

See why this area is known as the 'Lanyon Bowl' and how the rich landscape sustained Aboriginal culture and supported European settlement. Learn about the farming and irrigation of the Homestead. See the homes of workers past and find out who lived at ‘Bluebeard’s Cottage’ on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.

You will also encounter the southern hemisphere’s second largest water pumping windmill up close and personal. Learn about Aboriginal places like the scar tree, the river corridor and hear about our ongoing wombat wellbeing program. Enjoy views of the house and paddocks from afar. Arrive back at The Barracks Cafe in time for lunch (not included).

This is a 3.3km walking tour that features a few hills and occasional rough ground, wombat holes and high grass. Long trousers and suitable closed in shoes must be worn. Bring your own water bottle. Hat and sun cream recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reasonable fitness is required.

This tour is weather-dependant. We will contact you if we need to cancel the tour.

Bring a camera as you navigate our beautiful pastoral landscape on this walk.

This event is part of the ACT Heritage Festival.
