Step beyond the gardens of Lanyon Homestead and discover the remarkable natural and cultural landscape that surrounds this historic estate.

On this guided 3.3km walking tour, explore the unique ‘Lanyon Bowl’ and learn how its rich environment sustained Aboriginal communities and supported European settlement. Discover the stories of the Homestead’s farming and irrigation systems, visit the homes of former workers, and hear the history of ‘Redbeard’s Cottage’ on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.

Along the way, you'll see the Southern Hemisphere’s second-largest water-pumping windmill up close, learn about significant Aboriginal places including the scar tree and river corridor, and hear about our ongoing wombat wellbeing program. Enjoy stunning views of the Homestead, paddocks and surrounding landscape.

Pack your camera, walking shoes and sense of adventure. Why not make a day of it and enjoy morning tea at the Homestead Café before the tour?

Please note: This 3.3km walking tour includes hills, uneven ground, wombat holes and long grass. Participants should wear long trousers, sturdy closed-toe shoes and a hat. Bring a water bottle. A hat and sunscreen are recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and a reasonable level of fitness is required.

This tour is weather dependent. Participants will be notified of any cancellations.
