Join Dr Cathy Franzi, winner of the 2025 Lanyon Art Prize, for a talk exploring the ideas behind her award-winning work, Fine Open Grasslands.

Working at the intersection of ceramics, botanical science and printmaking, Franzi draws on her science background, artist residencies and botanical research to inform her creative practice. She will discuss the concepts and processes behind her work, including research undertaken with the National Seed Bank, and how this shapes her exploration of place, biodiversity and environmental history.

Franzi has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally, most recently in Jingdezhen, China, at the International Academy of Ceramics Congress. Her work is held in major public collections including Canberra Museum and Gallery, the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts (Leipzig), the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and the Parliament House Art Collection.

Represented by Sabbia Gallery, Franzi is a former President of The Australian Ceramics Association, a recipient of multiple Creative Australia grants, and has taught at the Australian National University.
