SYLVIA CURLEY ORATION: The art of heritage

Session Time:
Sun 22 May: 2–4pm

When significant buildings outlive their original use, communities and governments often seek to repurpose them as arts and cultural facilities. What opportunities and challenges are there, for the arts and for heritage, in adaptive reuse? How successfully have we reimagined spaces in Canberra to support both conservation and creativity? Joseph Falsone is the Director of Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres, both of which occupy heritage-listed premises (Gorman House and the former Ainslie Public School) that have recently undergone partial renovations.
