Lanyon walk and talk: Music in the Lanyon outbuildings

Sat 4 May: 12–1pm

$20 (Members and concession $15)

Book by Wed 1 May

Since pastoral settlement began at Lanyon, music has been part of the lives of the different classes of people who lived and worked on the property.

Songs were sung by women to ease the monotony of repetitive domestic tasks, shared at night round the campfire by men when the day’s stock-work was done and performed to entertain visitors round the piano. Hear from ANU School of Music Visiting Fellow, Jennifer Gall, as she shares the stories about music and dance at Lanyon and join in the singing to re-connect with Canberra's cultural history.

Children will have a chance to try out a fiddle.

In association with the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival.

Part of the Sounds like home music series

Heritage festival programs have been made possible through the generous support of Ms. Louise Douglas, former Chair, Cultural Facilities Corporation Board.
